SYSCILIA’s internal young-researcher workshop on career planning in academia and industry

Gordana Apic, partner 14, discussed different options for careers, particularly within SMEs or larger companies, and gave several real examples among her various contacts. She also discussed the various requirements for each sector. Marius Ueffing, partner 17, discussed how one can develop an academic career. This included a detailed discussion of work-life balance, which led to a lively discussion on career planning and self management. Also the importance of mentoring and networking was lively elaborated on.
SYSCILIA's internal workshop on exploring potential for translation of findings and specific techniques, assays and services from the partners.

The SYSCILIA kick-off meeting took place on the 1st and 2nd of July 2010 in Berg en Dal, Nijmegen, The Netherlands. The meeting was organized by the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre. On the first day every consortium participant introduced their institute, lab and expertise. They indicated their contribution to SYSCILIA and their wishes and expectations from SYSCILIA. The following day discussion of work packages were held chaired by the respective component leader.
